Idaho Day 2025: My Prayer for Idaho

I opened the Idaho Day celebration in the Senate on Tuesday with this prayer.

Opening: While preparing for today's prayer, I was reminded that we, as elected officials, don't just speak for ourselves; we carry the voice of those who voted for us. For most of the people who mark the bubble next to our name, we are the only lobbyist they can afford. The decisions we make here affect the most important and precious aspects of their lives. So I felt that it would be appropriate to ask for some of the prayers that are on the hearts of the people whose cause I carry with me into this seat of governance over the treasure that we call Idaho.

Here are their petitions made from the quiet places of their hearts and homes through this flawed vessel. May The Lord bend near and hear the voice of His people today. Please join me in prayer:

My Prayer: Heavenly Father, We thank You for this Beautiful state of Idaho, for our precious freedoms, for the abundant resources, and for the people who make Idaho such a wonderful place to live. We thank You that You have not left us without a compass, Your truth is our guiding light. Enable us to be excellent stewards of all of these blessings You have so graciously given us. Establish us in Your principles, may we be rooted and grounded in love for You and each other; provide us with guidance and direction and humility, as Your word says You resist the proud, but You give grace to the humble, forgive our pride and open up our eyes and ears to understand the goodness of God. Lord, let Idaho be known as a place that upholds Your standard for what is right and just and wise; give those in authority discernment, integrity, and courage to defend and protect the most innocent and vulnerable. May we have a justice system that does not judge unjustly, but rather follows the path of righteousness and rescues those being led away to destruction. Protect our state from any influences that would seek to cause harm, and guard us from greed and corruption so future generations here can live in peace and blessing. Oh, Creator of heaven and earth, HEAL THE BROKEN SOUL of our culture, every city, school, business, family, and individual. And may Idaho prosper as our soul prospers. We ask these things in the name that is above every name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
